Wix Review : Is it still a good site builder?
Table of Contents
What is Wix?
Wix is a website builder that seeks to make it possible for anyone, regardless of technical ability, to establish a website or online store. Since it is a hosted solution, it operates “in the cloud,” or on its own network of servers.
Thus, you won’t need to purchase hosting or install any software on your end. Anyone with a computer, a web browser, and access to the internet can create, update, and promote a Wix site.
What percentage of websites are created with Wix?
With its origins in Israel and its current workforce of over 5,000, Wix is one of the more seasoned website-creation companies. And it has a massive user base; Builtwith.com, a provider of internet statistics, estimates that it now powers just under 8 million websites.
That makes it a more substantial enterprise than its smaller-user-base competitors like Squarespace, Jimdo, and Weebly. Being a large company, Wix reduces the likelihood that it will go under, taking your website down with it. What this also means is that new features will be added on a regular basis.
Does Wix cost anything to use?
Wix is both a free and paid version, the latter of which is suitable for those in need of a simple website. The free plan is fine for personal use, such as a 50th birthday party, wedding, or small community garage sale, but professionals should look elsewhere due to its limited functionality and intrusive Wix advertisements.
The Wix free plan has its benefits, such as access to all of Wix’s 800+ templates and free hosting. The Wix app market can be integrated, and all of Wix’s stock images, clip art, and icons can be used (more on this later). The free tier affords you 500 MB of space and 500 MB of transfer.
If your website is fairly small and doesn’t get a lot of visitors, you should be fine with these caps. And the free plan doesn’t require a credit card to use it.
Wix’s top-tier packages
Wix’s premium plans are available in a variety of countries with somewhat different names and prices. In the United States, customers can choose from eight premium plans, which fall into one of three buckets: Website, Business and Ecommerce, or Enterprise.
You can utilise your own domain with these Wix services, and there is no advertising or data limits. The most important details to watch out for when comparing Wix’s premium plans are:
- Plans at the business, ecommerce, and enterprise tiers are the only ones that have e-commerce capabilities, such as those used for online sales.
- Use of certain Wix applications, such as the “site booster” app that submits your site to directories, the “events calendar” app, and the “logo maker” app that comes with the more expensive plans.
- Upload and sell more video material on your Wix site by purchasing additional “Video Hours.”
- In terms of assistance, only the VIP and Enterprise plans provide access to the highest levels of service.
- Wix offers free domain name registration for one year with the purchase of an annual subscription (yoursitename.com etc.).
- Mailboxes You can purchase email mailboxes from Wix (provided by Google Workspace) or set up your Wix domain’s DNS settings to utilise a different email address provider.
As we progress through the evaluation, we’ll delve deeper into these distinctions. A short word about “Wix Enterprise“: this Wix subscription is tailored to business users and includes enhanced security options, individualised support, and site design specialists.
The “Enterprise” package isn’t necessary for the vast majority of Wix customers, but if you’re interested in it, you may schedule a call with Wix to discuss price.
Web design examples with Wix
Wix provides more than 800 different templates to choose from. This is a lot more than the number of designs offered by Squarespace’s main rival, WooCommerce, which is only approximately 140, and all Wix templates are free, unlike those offered by Shopify and BigCommerce.
Content Management System Editor Wix
Creating a newsletter with it is about as complicated as doing so in Microsoft Word, so it’s not too difficult to learn.
Safety and dependability
The security of your site is handled for you on Wix, so aside from the usual precautions around passwords, you can focus on the content of your site without worrying about the nitty-gritty of the platform.
If you’re running an e-commerce site, the stakes are even higher, making it imperative that you take security seriously.
In general, Wix is a fully-featured tool that can help a small business with a limited budget build a highly functional website.
In exchange for a nominal monthly cost, you can create a site with numerous useful features, such as an online store, a blog, email marketing, galleries, appointment booking, and much more.
The platform has numerous well-designed wizards, support tools, training films, and help files to guide even the most hesitant users through their first steps.
